In India, community based organisations (CBOs) working for the welfare of elderly play a significant role in voicing out the major issues of elderly. They face several challenges while dealing with government and beneficiaries. Therefore, the paper aims to document the contribution of the selected CBOs in the field of aging and explores their functioning, funding, advocacy role along with achievements and their challenges. An exploratory study covering eight national and state level CBOs was conducted. The transcripts were analyzed using QSR-NVivo-10. The results indicate that the role of senior citizens’ organization is extremely important and their commitment, credibility and determination to carry out various activities for the well-being of elderly make their presence essential. It is now responsibility of government and non-governmental agencies to strengthen these organisations with necessary resources and information to promote positive ageing in the society. Efforts are required to encourage these organizations to scale up activities and reach out to a larger section of elderly population. Representation of elderly from rural areas and from unorganised sector in main stream should be there as well as intergenerational interactions should happen to eliminate problems at household level.
