Internal migration impact on sex ratios: a case study using Colombian 2018 census data.

Sex ratio is a useful tool to understand a variety of demographic behaviors with social and economic implications. We aim to employ data from the 2018 Colombian census to explore the effect of internal migration on the sex ratio balance across municipalities and regions and its socio-economic ramifications. This study employs a combination of methodologies to discern distinctive patterns for men and women and the impact caused by total migration, internal and international migration such as visualization techniques through maps and chord diagrams, Social Network Analysis (SNA), and Compositional Impact Migration index. Preliminary results show different patterns in the impact of migration on the sex ratio in a departmental geographical level when two different questions about place of residence one and five years before census are used in the questionnaire. Expected results will show the spatial autocorrelation and the influence of socio-economic variables in the sex ratio as an outcome.
